TONGA – 2019

The TONGA cruise occurred at the end of 2019 in the Tropical Pacific Ocean in order to investigate the impact of the submarine volcanoes and associated hydrothermal venting on the input of micronutrients (especially iron) and toxic elements to the photic layer of the ocean. Samples were collected from a 35 µm phytoplankton mesh from 0 to 200 m and from a 20 µm bottle-net from 200 to 2,000 m. Images were taken on a Nikon TE-200 inverted light microscope and a Phenom Pro benchtop SEM.
